What you need to know:

- If these STIs are not treated, they can have serious consequences, including fertility problems.
General:
- STIs caused by bacteria (such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, mycoplasma, and syphilis) are relatively easy to treat. Usually, an antibiotic course suffices.
- Viral STIs (such as genital warts (HPV), hepatitis B, herpes, and HIV) are much harder to treat. Each requires a different approach. The progression is often unpredictable and depends on the person. Sometimes, treatment must be continued for a long time, sometimes even lifelong.
- Parasitic STIs (such as scabies, trichomonas, and pubic lice) are well treatable. They are caused by a parasite, and medication is always prescribed for them.
