About this test

Test yourself easily for Mycoplasma.

Mycoplasma is a sexually transmitted disease. Mycoplasma genitalium is an infection of the urinary tract and genitals. In women, it can lead to infections such as cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix) or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and in men it can lead to urethritis (inflammation of the urethra).

Although Mycoplasma genitalium is not as well known as other STDs such as chlamydia or gonorrhea, it can have serious consequences if left untreated, such as infertility. It is usually transmitted through sexual contact, but can also be spread through other forms of intimate contact.

Our home test offers a powerful solution. This test is designed to offer you maximum privacy and comfort through a simple home collection method. With specific kits for vaginal, uterine, anal and oral samples, you can quickly and easily collect a sample yourself. All of this is done completely discreetly, without having to visit a clinic or STD clinic or share personal details.

Our test kits are not only easy to use, but also provide reliable and accurate results, giving you clarity about your sexual health within a few days. Analysis and authorization is carried out by a qualified medical microbiologist. The ability to act quickly on the test results can be essential for both treatment and peace of mind. Specially designed for those who value their privacy, health and time, our home test is an ideal choice to gain certainty about your health status, whenever and wherever it suits you.

  • This bacterium causes infections in the urogenital system and can show symptoms such as:
    • Unusual discharge from the penis or vagina
    • Pain when urinating
    • Lower abdominal pain (mostly in women)
    • Bleeding between periods (in women)

    • Vaginal discharge
    • Pelvic pain or discomfort
    • Increased risk of miscarriage or infections after childbirth

It is important to know that some people with a mycoplasma infection do not experience any obvious symptoms, especially with mild infections.

Additional information about Mycoplasma

Mycoplasma is a bacterium that you can get through unsafe sex, among other things. Women who are infected with mycoplasma can experience symptoms such as changed discharge, burning sensation when urinating, abdominal pain, pain during sex and blood loss after sexual contact. Symptoms that men with mycoplasma infection can experience are pain or burning sensation when urinating and discharge from the penis. After some time, the symptoms in men/women disappear by themselves and with them the infection, so treatment is sometimes not necessary.

FAQ

How reliable is the test?

STD tests are very sensitive and very specific. A high sensitivity means that the STD can be detected even when there are only a few bacteria present. In science, a sensitivity and specificity of 95% is considered very high.

Below is an overview of the specificity and sensitivity of our STD tests:

Chlamydia trachomatis:
Sensitivity 100% (99.4 – 100.0)
Specificity 99.8% (99.0 – 100.0)

Neisseria gonorrhoeae:
Sensitivity 100% (99.4 – 100.0)
Specificity 99.8% (99.1 – 100.0)

Trichomonas vaginalis:
Sensitivity 95.3% (93.0 – 97.0)
Specificity 100% (99.0 – 100.0)

Mycoplasma genitalium:
Sensitivity 96.3% (94.0 – 98.0)
Specificity 100% (99.0 – 100.0)

The variation of sensitivity and specificity is shown in brackets.
Can I perform the test during menstruation?

You can also test for STDs if you are menstruating. This does not affect the test result. Remove your tampon or menstrual cup before taking the test.

What should I do if I test positive?

Contact your doctor for confirmation and treatment.

Is repeat testing necessary?

Repetition may be recommended if there are new or persistent risks.

Can this test detect other STDs?

No, this test is specific for Mycoplasma. We also offer other tests specifically for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis (blood) tests.
